Reconditioned rollers stay strong for 50+ years!
We are very proud of our heritage and the Auto-Roller products we manufacture and support. Not only are they the best in the business for keeping your pitch and outfield in pristine condition, but they also last a VERY long time.
On Wednesday 28th August 1968, a new Auto-Roller was ordered by the head groundsman of Bishop’s Stortford College, E G Witherden. Delivered early in 1969, Auto-Roller Serial Number 3556169 went into service. And it kept on giving great service, day after day, match after match, year after year. Right up until 2022 when the College decided it was time for a ‘new’ roller and part exchanged their 1968 model with us.
Because of the longevity of the Auto-Roller design, the replacement roller they bought, was itself a reconditioned roller. A relative newcomer, originally ordered by the Borough of Margate parks department in April 1972, Serial Number 2572 is now enjoying its new college life, keeping the playing fields and pitches in their best possible condition.
But what happened to the 1968 Auto-Roller? You will be pleased to learn that thanks to our team of dedicated engineers and mechanics, Serial Number 3556169 has been reconditioned and is now gainfully employed rolling the pitch at Thetford Cricket Club! More than fifty years old and still giving great service. That’s the Auto-Roller for you.
Repair, Refurbish, Recondition!
As well as our comprehensive service and spares offering, we also have the ability to completely repair, refurbish and recondition your Auto-Roller. With access to the plans and tooling for many of the products manufactured in our 100-year history, we can bring your roller right up to date, giving it many more years of trouble-free service.
For example, our Re-power Pack has been designed to give older Auto-Rollers a new lease of life.
The unit is fitted with a 9hp, single cylinder air cooled Hatz diesel engine, together with a hydrostatic transmission system providing a stepless speed control facility in either direction. The complete transmission is contained within an enclosure to reduce the possibility of oil spillage in the unlikely event of a hydraulic system failure. Biodegradable hydraulic oil is used throughout the system, which will not harm grass. Power steering and electric start are fitted as an integral part.
Part Exchange and Hire!
As well as purchasing new and refurbished Auto-Rollers, we offer part exchange for your existing roller as well as the ability to hire a 3ft or 4ft Auto-Roller for either a season or a school term. As Steve, the ARCC Grants Officer from Aythorpe Roding Cricket Club said:
“We have hired a 4ft Auto Roller from March until July for the last two seasons, having previously hired a Bomag style road roller. Since using the Auto Roller, our squares and practice area has improved significantly. Being able to ballast the roller, means we can gradually build up the weight during pre-season, increasing the consolidation of our squares.
The service we have had is second to none. And, I’d thoroughly recommend hiring a roller, for those clubs/schools who are unable to afford the outlay to buy a designated cricket roller.”
